America Must Disown Donald Trump
The enemy to America's democracy is not only within but within the highest office in the land. Donald Trump is now not just a defeated president but a disgraced rogue president who should be removed.
Trump supporters in camouflage garb terrorized the U.S. Capitol, inspired by his false claims of a stolen election.
OUR NEW DOMESTIC TERRORISTS in America are Donald Trump and the feebled-minded followers that he has managed to brainwash into doing his dirty work, including the violent armed mob assault of the U.S. Capitol that resulted in widespread damage, looting and vandalism of the historic building and the death of four people.
The stunning attack attempting to block the electoral voting confirming Joe Biden as the next president was nothing short of being called a white racial riot that was instigated by the manifestly unfit Trump’s neurotic insistance that he was robbed of the 2020 presidential election and his minions foolish enough to believe that.
With blood now on his hands in this riot fueled by his debunked election claims, Trump has insured that his legacy will be the worst of any American president in history. He leaves office in less that two weeks. But Trump leaving the White House is no longer enough.
America — the real Americans, not the treasonous Trump hate-mongering thugs — deserves to be rid of Trump and his cancerous following and their threat of another seditious act like Wednesday’s attempted coup.
Here are some early steps that America needs to take:
— Congress must enact tougher laws governing protests in Washington, D.C., including a zero-grace policy on anyone except law enforcement or federal security forces carrying weapons.
— Facial recognition software and other technology must be used in quickly identifying and aggressively prosecuting protestors who broke into the Capitol, looting and destroying government property — and demanding stiff prison sentences against these domestic terrorists.
— The Justice Deparment and FBI must launch aggressice criminal investigations of the Proud Boys and other hate groups associated with Trump in the same forceful way that the federal government prosecuted the Ku Klux Klan and other hate groups in the 1960s.
— The apparent slow response by security and law enforcement to the terrorism by Trump thugs over-running the Capitol demands a thorough investigation, with full accountability for the failure of those in command.
— Trump must be sued personally for damage caused by inciting the gun-toting, pro-Trump violent mob that stormed the Capitol, resulting in damage and the death of one unidentified woman.
— New York and other states with criminal investigations against Trump, his family and their businesses must intensify their probes and bring the appropriate indictments and charges.
— The television networks and streaming media must vow to not allow a post-presidency Trump on the air, either in bafoon reality or game show programming or paid advertising.
— Social media needs to follow the lead of Twitter, Facebook and Instagram in patrolling and blocking when necessary the liars and Trump wannabes. Not that this would stop the bs coming from those people but it would put them on notice and on the defensive.
— Congress must bring the Internet and social media companies under the same scrutiny placed on radio and television stations by the Federal Communications Commission.
The way American society, particularly in the Republican Party, reacts in the future to Donald Trump and his followers and their outrageous belief that he had the presidency stolen from him will define for decades what kind of country America really is. How America deals with the ignorance and ugliness of Donald Trump, and therefore with itself, will show it to be either the nation seen by its detractors — selfish and oppressive — or else the country seen by its defenders— painfully troubled but still holding to its original moral purpose and promise. It may be our most important role in the near future not only to struggle for righting a nation that Trump sought to destroy, but also to recall all of America — including Trump’s followers — to its own sense of conscience and destiny.
